Adv. Irit Gazit
Director of Documentation Unit
Adv. Irit Gazit serves as the Director of the Documentation Unit at the Civil Commission, bringing extensive legal expertise in representing victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and at-risk children. Irit oversees the collection of evidence and testimonies, working closely with survivors and affected communities, and applies a victim-centered approach. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from COLMAN College of Management Academic Studies and is a certified member of the Bar Association, attesting to her professional standing in the legal community.
Throughout her career, Irit has dedicated herself to representing victims of crime and promoting legislation to support underrepresented groups within Israeli society. Her commitment to social justice is evident in her previous positions, including Director of the Legal Department for the Advocacy and Promotion of Rights for People with Intellectual Disabilities at AKIM, Legal Aid Lawyer, and Director of Legal Aid at the Advancement of the Status of Women at WIZO (Women's International Zionist Organization). Irit was the Director of the youth representation clinic at Reichman University and Attorney and Guardian of children on behalf of the State Legal Aid.
These roles have allowed Irit to make significant contributions to improving the lives of vulnerable populations, particularly children at risk, women victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse and people with intellectual disabilities. In her role as Director of the Documentation Unit, Irit leverages her legal expertise and advocacy experience to ensure comprehensive and precise documentation of the Civil Commission's work, conducting investigations and recording experiences in a manner that is safe, ethical, and effective in upholding human rights. Irit has broad experience in representation in courts, submission of position papers, participation in discussions in Knesset committees and other forums, and the initiation and promotion of bills. Her background in representing underrepresented groups and promoting legislative changes aligns well with the Commission's mission to address civil rights issues and promote social justice. Additionally, Irit serves as a member of the Ethics Committee for the Forum of Leaders of War Documentation Initiatives.
