Dr. Michal Gilad

Senior Research Fellow

Dr. Michal Gilad serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Civil Commission, bringing her extensive interdisciplinary expertise in law, social science, and policy research to the role. She is the Director and Co-Founder of The Multidisciplinary Center on Childhood, Public Policy, and Sustainable Society, a non-profit research center that promotes collaboration between scientists, legal scholars, and policy experts to advance evidence-based research on issues impacting children and families.

Michal specializes in utilizing academic and empirical research to inform and improve laws and policies, with a particular focus on those affecting children and families. Her research centers on synthesizing science and law to develop evidence-based adaptations of policies that address the unique developmental, social, and cultural needs of children and youth. She has significant expertise in childhood trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and multigenerational trauma.

As an Expert Fellow and Board Member with the National Prevention Science Coalition, Michal contributes to initiatives aimed at preventing social ills and promoting well-being. She also serves as an expert fellow with the Salzburg Global Seminar, focusing on youth violence, safety, and whole-child education.

Michal's work has been published in prominent professional journals, including the University of Illinois Law Review, NYU Review of Law & Social Change, and the Fordham Urban Law Journal. Her insights have also been featured in media outlets such as Forbes, NY Daily News, and the Philadelphia Enquirer.

Her academic credentials include a doctorate degree (S.J.D) and an LLM from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, an M.S. in criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, and an LLB from Tel-Aviv University Faculty of Law. This diverse educational background equips her with a unique perspective in addressing complex societal issues through interdisciplinary approaches.

In her role at the Civil Commission, Dr. Gilad likely applies her expertise to conduct and oversee research that informs policy recommendations and initiatives related to civil rights, particularly those affecting children and families.
